Texas Veterans Home Mortgage & ENERGY STAR

Veterans from the state of Texas can be proud of the fact that their texas veteran home loan program actively supports environmental issues. The Texas Veteran Land Board has a history of supporting the conservation of our natural resources. One of the ways that this support can be evidenced is in the quality and energy efficiency of the texas veteran home loans that it approves. Therefore, effective January 1, 2007, all new-construction homes financed through the Texas Veterans Housing Assistance Program (VHAP) must meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new guidelines for ENERGY STAR® qualified homes. What does this new policy mean to a veteran applying for a Texas Veteran Home Mortgage through the VLB? In technical terms, it means that each new home will need to follow all of the published EPA guidelines for energy efficient heating and air conditioning. This includes the completion of a Thermal Bypass Checklist by a certified Home Energy Rating System rater. This ensures that the insulation and other internal air barriers are properly installed. The bottom line is that you will know that your new home will make the best use of the resources necessary to keep your house comfortable. This not only helps preserve our natural resources, it can also save you money on your annual heating and cooling bills. When it comes time to buy that new home or remodel the one that you have, make sure you are dealing with people who understand the needs and the resources associated with VA and Texas Veterans home loans – and are sensitive to our fragile natural resources.
